The Department of Thoracic Surgery, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), successfully hosted a two-day pre-symposium workshop during the 55th JPMC Symposium titled “From Deformity to Restoration: A Surgical Masterclass on Pectus Deformity.”
We were honored to welcome Prof. Wenlin Wang, a renowned thoracic surgeon from China, who conducted this highly specialized workshop. This workshop was attended by doctors from all over Pakistan.
Day 1 began with a welcome address by Dr. Nazish Sikander, Assistant Professor, Thoracic Surgery, followed by insightful lectures from Dr. Tanveer Ahmed, Professor of Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Muhammad Shoaib, and Prof. Wenlin Wang. The academic sessions were followed by an interactive hands-on workshop on chest wall deformity correction, where participants were introduced to specialized instruments and practical demonstrations were performed on mannequins.

Day 2 marked a historic milestone, with complex pectus deformity correction surgeries being performed for the first time at JPMC, Karachi. Two patients successfully underwent surgery, which was live-broadcast for the participants, providing an exceptional learning experience.
The workshop proved to be an enriching and memorable experience for both participants and the host department, reflecting JPMC’s commitment to advancing thoracic surgical education and patient care.
